In the cartoon above, the wolf did not chase the giant panda but ran away when it saw it. Why? Do giant pandas have enemies in the wild? Let's see.
Adult giant pandas have almost no enemies in the wild. This is due to various reasons.
Firstly, giant pandas have a gentle temperament and rarely provoke other animals. Since they do not provoke other animals, they will not be involved in fights.
Secondly, their black circles also protect them. When other animals see the black circles, they mistakenly think they are large eyes. When they see pandas with such huge eyes, they assume their combat effectiveness is also high. They will not provoke the giant panda and instead run away with fear.
Thirdly, 99% of the staple food of giant pandas is bamboo. Bamboo is not a common staple food. Other animals will not fight for it. Giant pandas pose little threat to other animals.
Fourthly, they have sharp claws. With a gentle scratch, a person's skin and bones can break. If it fights with other animals, it is not weak.
Lastly, although giant pandas weigh less than brown bears and polar bears, if you control for weight, the bite force of the giant panda is actually much stronger than that of both bears. Their bite force also makes them less likely to lose in a fight.
Due to the above traits, adult giant pandas have almost no enemies in the wild.
Other than the above traits, what is another characteristic of the giant panda that makes them have no enemies in the wild? We'll see next week!
